Thank you to everyone who came to the staghorn fern workshop at MOSS on March 17! Participants mounted 4" platycerium veitchii onto cedar rounds from Baskins Sawmill here in Port Angeles. Each person has her choice of how to finish the mounting, with either preserved sheet moss or sphagnum moss. I think they all turned out beautiful! What do you think??

It was such a treat to visit a true Port Angeles treasure, the Baskins Sawmill. After a phone conversation, Chris cut a bin each of cedar and redwood cookies for me to choose from. They were exactly to my specifications and looked great. Also on hand were some gorgeous live edge slabs that made me dream of home renovation projects. I took the cookies home and sanded one side of each as smooth as I could get it. The roughness of the unsanded side will give the staghorn a little something to hold on to, and the smooth back will hang against the wall. Sanded and dried, these babies are ready for the upcoming workshop at MOSS!
